Respirators and surgical masks are suitable

Because respirator filters must meet stringent certification requirements, they will always show high levels of collection efficiency for the various aerosols encountered in the workplace. There have been recent concerns that respirator filters do not collect nanoscale particles, but studies have shown that these particles are collected in accordance with NIOSH standards. This is not surprising since the NIOSH test uses small, charge-neutralized, relatively monodisperse aerosol particles and high gas flows.

Therefore, the most important aspect of NIOSH-certified respirator performance will be its fit to the face and minimize the amount of leakage around the mask. Everyone and their selected respirator must be measured. Choosing the right respirator for a particular workplace exposure depends to a large extent on choosing the right level of protection.
