The Health Effects of Occupational Exposure to Asphalt
Health Effects of Occupational Exposure to Asphalt
The complex chemical composition of bitumen makes it difficult to identify specific ingredients that are adversely affected by health observed in exposed workers. Known carcinogens have been found in asphalt fume produced in the workplace. Observations of the acute stimuli of air and skin workers exposed to asphalt smoke and aerosols and the likelihood of chronic health effects including cancer require continued efforts to control exposure.
